1989 — Taylor Swift

Released in October 2014, 1989 marked Taylor Swift’s first official "documented, official pop album." Teaming up with legendary pop producers Max Martin, Shellback, and Jack Antonoff, Taylor abandoned her signature country banjo and fiddle arrangements in favor of pulsing 80s synthesizers, energetic drum machines, and razor-sharp vocal hooks.

The record became an unstoppable cultural juggernaut, spawning a string of chart-topping mega-hits including the brassy, kiss-off anthem "Shake It Off," the cinematic satire "Blank Space," and the soaring, atmospheric "Style." Deep cuts like "Out of the Woods" and "Clean" showcased her unmatched narrative songwriting ability, proving that catchy pop melodies could still carry profound emotional depth. 1989 went on to win Album of the Year at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, solidifying Taylor's place in modern music history.
