Wahdon — Fairuz

Released in 1979 during the escalating turmoil of the Lebanese Civil War, Wahdon marked a dramatic, historic turning point in Fairuz’s legendary career. Following the end of her long musical partnership with the Rahbani Brothers (her husband Assi and brother-in-law Mansour), Fairuz entrusted full musical and compositional direction to her 23-year-old prodigy son, Ziad Rahbani. The result shocked purists and electrified a new generation of listeners across the globe.

The album is brilliantly structured in two contrasting sonic halves. Side A dives headfirst into infectious, Western-influenced groove, anchored by the legendary nine-minute Arab disco-funk anthem "Al Bosta" (telling the humorous story of a sweltering bus ride to the mountain town of Broummana) and the sparkling, piano-driven "Habaytak Ta Nsite El Nawm." Side B pivots into sublime, deeply emotional balladry, pairing the haunting, evocative poetry of Talal Haidar with Ziad's lush, late-night jazz arrangements on "Wahdon" and "Shou Bkhaf." It remains one of the most celebrated and influential Arabic albums ever recorded.
